the hub
I went to the hub today for the first time.
It's a straight shot on the 🅠from my house, 7 stops. A pleasant ride.
Everyone was kind, and most were visibly nervous. Me too. Shades of the first day of preschool.
The facilitators treat you like adults and equals. That is not a feeling I associate with learning spaces.
The space is clean, and wonderfully communal. No reserved desks, and nobody tracks what you take out of the library.
They have a lot of hardware available that I haven't ever used;
- a pen plotter (!)
- a LED display
- anyone can run arbitrary code
- bad apple?
- a 3d printer
There's also a corner with old computers. They still work, and are open for use. I hope I can see someone do something cool with them.
